Dr. Almakky is a Research Associate at the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence. He received his PhD in 2020 from Coventry University with a thesis titled “Deep Learning for Mining Information from Figures in Biomedical Literature”. His focus is on Deep Learning and Computer Vision applications in the biomedical field.

Dr. Almakky has completed his PhD at Coventry University in 2020 with a thesis titled “Deep Learning for Mining Information from Figures in Biomedical Literature”. Dr. Almakky has worked on a variety of Deep Learning and Computer Vision projects such as biomedical figure classification, optical character recognition, emotion recognition, diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy detection and fingerprint alteration detection. 

Dr. Almakky is passionate about new advancements in Deep Representation Learning and Computer Vision. He is also keen on the utilisation of high-performance computing and GPU processing in training Deep Learning models. He has had extensive experience teaching Programming, Algorithms, Software Engineering, Web Technologies, and Databases as well as supervising masters and final-year project students at Coventry University.
