Assessment of fetal lung maturity

lungs

The fetal pulmonary system typically starts to mature in later gestation during pregnancy. The fetal lung becomes more visible in the third trimester and its maturity is key to ensure proper fetal health. It is still unclear how to assess whether fetal lungs are growing properly. However, on birth the infant pulmonary system can be assessed and if required may undergo special care. The study main objective is to investigate the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) solution which aims to predict and possibly quantify whether fetal lungs are mature or not from an ultrasound image of the lungs at later gestation.
